Sarah started dating again, slowly, cautiously, but with a fierce set of boundaries. She met a kind, quiet architect named David who never raised his voice and looked at her like she was the only woman in the world.

I threw myself into my work. I used Mark’s ledger to systematically arrest three corrupt judges and two dirty cops who had been protecting the Petrovs. The city was getting cleaner, one arrest at a time.

One Sunday, Sarah and David came over for dinner. The apartment smelled of roasted garlic and fresh bread. We laughed, we argued over movies, and we lived. It was so remarkably ordinary, which was the greatest gift we could have asked for.
