Chapter 14 - The Feds Move In

The shooting accelerated everything. By 2:00 AM, the street was swarming with local police and FBI agents. Agent Miller stood next to me, looking at the crushed parked car.
"They missed," Miller said grimly.
"They didn't miss. I moved," I corrected him. "Mark panicked. He knows I know about the skimming. He sent Petrov’s guys to silence me."
"We can't wait anymore," Miller decided. "If they're doing brazen hits on city streets, the syndicate is spooked. We're executing the federal raid on Mark’s corporate offices and the Petrov strongholds simultaneously at dawn. But we need Mark in custody before he runs."
"He’s not at his house," I said, pulling up my phone. "His lawyer told him to stay at a luxury hotel downtown to avoid the press. Suite 402 at the Grand Marquis."
"You want to do the honors?" Miller asked, handing me a tactical vest with 'FBI' emblazoned in yellow letters.

"I'm on suspension," I reminded him.
"You're acting as a civilian consultant for a federal task force," Miller smirked. "Put the vest on. Let's go catch a monster."
