Chapter 13 - The Final Confrontation

Silas sprinted up the main staircase, blood dripping from a cut above his eye, his rifle out of ammo. He drew his sidearm, kicking open the bedroom door just as Dimitri managed to level his shotgun at Bane.

The dog was bleeding from a deep graze on his flank, standing protectively over Elara, refusing to yield an inch.

"Drop it, Dimitri!" Silas roared, aiming his pistol directly at the Russian boss's head.

Dimitri laughed, keeping his shotgun trained on the dog. "You lose, Vance. I take the girl, or I take your life. It ends tonight."

"You're right. It does," Silas said softly.

Silas didn't shoot Dimitri. He shot the massive crystal chandelier hanging directly above the Russian’s head. The heavy brass fixture plummeted, crashing down onto Dimitri and pinning him to the floor. The shotgun blasted into the ceiling harmlessly.

Silas closed the distance in three strides, kicking the weapon away. He grabbed Dimitri by the collar, dragging him out from under the glass, and drove a fist into the man's face until he stopped moving.
