Chapter 12 - The Beast Unleashed

Dimitri Volkov himself stepped through the rubble of the east wing, flanked by four elite bodyguards. He carried a heavy shotgun, a cruel smile twisting his scarred face. They moved swiftly up the back staircase, bypassing the main firefight.

They reached the master bedroom door. Dimitri fired a slug directly into the electronic lock, kicking the heavy steel door open.

Inside, Elara was huddled in the corner, clutching a blanket. But standing between her and the door was Bane. The dog didn't just growl; he let out a roar that shook the very floorboards, his muscles coiled tight, fangs dripping with saliva.

"Shoot the dog!" Dimitri ordered.

Before the guards could raise their weapons, Bane launched himself. He didn't attack like a normal dog; he fought like a highly trained assassin. He dodged the first shotgun blast, clamping his jaws onto the closest guard's knee, shattering the joint instantly. Using the man as a shield, he avoided the return fire, springing off the wall and tearing out the throat of a second guard.

The room devolved into chaos. Bane was a whirlwind of teeth and fury, taking hit after hit from grazing bullets, but his pain tolerance was absolute. He was defending his pack.
