The atmosphere inside the compound was electric with tension. Silas’s men were fortifying windows with steel plates, setting up sniper nests on the roof, and laying down suppressive fire lines across the lawns. Silas equipped himself with a tactical vest, an assault rifle, and a customized combat knife.

He walked into the master bedroom, where Elara was sitting quietly. She looked up at him, her large eyes filled with an understanding that was far too mature for a six-year-old.

"Are the bad men coming back?" she asked softly.

"Yes," Silas said, kneeling down to her eye level. "But they are not going to hurt you. I promise you that."

Bane walked over, pressing his large head against Silas's chest. Silas patted the dog’s thick neck. "You stay with her. No matter what happens out there, you do not leave this room. Protect the girl."

Bane let out a soft huff, sitting firmly in front of the door. Silas stood up, taking one last look at the child who had unexpectedly become the center of his brutal world. He locked the heavy steel door behind him. It was time to go to war.
