Chapter 5

Silence stretched between them, heavier than lead. Lucas didn't let go of her. Instead, he slowly pushed the heavy fabric of her cardigan back. Bella tried to pull away, but his grip was like iron.
He stared at the five-month pregnant swell of her stomach. When he looked back up at her, his eyes were entirely black.
“What is this?” he whispered.
“Let me go,” Bella panicked, shoving at his chest.
“I gave you a pill,” he snarled, his voice cracking like a whip. “I watched you put it in your mouth. Who is the father?”
“It doesn't matter. It has nothing to do with you.”
“Don't lie to me!” The glass walls of the office seemed to rattle. “You haven't been with anyone else. You were shaking like a leaf that night. I know what I took from you.”
“I threw up, okay?!” Bella yelled back, tears springing to her eyes. “I walked out of your hotel and I threw up in an alley! The pill didn't work!”
Lucas stared at her, the reality crashing down on him. A child. His child. The bloodline he swore would die with him because of the monsters in his world was growing right in front of him.
“You’re coming with me,” he said, grabbing her wrist.

“You are carrying my heir in a city where half the men I know would cut you open just to send me a message,” Lucas interrupted, his voice dropping to a terrifying calm. “You belong to me now.”
