Chapter 11

For the next two months, Bella lived in a secure underground bunker beneath a decoy warehouse. It was fully furnished, equipped with medical supplies, and guarded by Lucas’s most loyal, hand-picked men.

Lucas visited every night. The dynamic between them slowly, inevitably shifted. The cold, ruthless mafia boss melted away in the bunker. He brought her cravings—pickles, spicy noodles, expensive chocolates from Switzerland. He would sit on the edge of the bed and read to her, his deep, gravelly voice soothing the baby.

One evening, as he laid his hand on her swollen belly, a sharp kick met his palm. Lucas gasped, his hardened eyes widening in pure wonder.

“He’s strong,” Lucas whispered, looking up at Bella.

“He takes after his father,” Bella smiled softly, surprising herself with the truth of the words.

Lucas leaned in, his lips brushing against hers. It was a hesitant kiss at first, testing the waters, before turning desperate. It wasn't a transaction like their first night. It was a promise.

“I have the location on Marcus,” Lucas said, pulling back slightly, resting his forehead against hers. “He’s holding up at the port. Tomorrow night, I end this.”

“Be careful, Lucas. Please.”

“I’m coming back to you, Bella. I swear on our son’s life.”

But what neither of them knew was that the warehouse's chief of security, a man Lucas trusted with his life, had just sent a text message to Marcus Thorne: The package is secured. Ready for extraction.
