Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Verdict
The judge slammed his wooden gavel down with a sharp, echoing crack that silenced the entire room.
“I am completely dissolving this marriage, effective immediately,” the judge declared loudly.
“Furthermore, I am awarding Clara Thorne one hundred percent of the marital assets, including the house and all remaining bank accounts.”
Sylvia gasped loudly from the gallery, completely unable to contain her shock at being left completely destitute.
“Marcus Thorne, you are ordered to repay Clara the full amount of the stolen funds within ninety days, or you will face severe civil penalties.”
“Additionally, considering the pending criminal charges for domestic battery, you are ordered to surrender your passport immediately.”
Marcus looked completely crushed, realizing that his entire life of lies and arrogance had finally caught up with him in the worst possible way.
He had absolutely no money, no home, no reputation, and a looming criminal trial that would likely end in a prison sentence.
The bailiff ordered Marcus to stand and escorted him out of the courtroom to complete the necessary paperwork.
As Marcus walked past Clara's table, he paused for a brief second, looking at the woman he had tried so hard to break.
Clara did not flinch, she did not look away, and she did not show a single ounce of fear.
She simply looked right through him, as if he were nothing more than a ghost of her past.
Sarah stood up and wrapped her arm protectively around her daughter’s shoulders, smiling brightly at the victory.
They walked out of the courtroom together, stepping into the bright, warm sunlight of the city.
