Chapter 6 - The Social Media War

Sylvia could not handle the crushing reality of losing her luxurious lifestyle and her social status.
She decided to take matters into her own hands by launching a massive, vicious smear campaign against Clara on Facebook.
She posted a long, tearful video claiming that Clara was a financially abusive, mentally unstable woman who had framed Marcus for assault.
“My son is a saint who tried to save a deeply troubled woman, and she repaid him with lies and deceit,” Sylvia cried to the camera.
The video gained traction quickly among their high-society circle, with several people leaving supportive comments for Sylvia.
Clara saw the video and felt a sudden, crushing wave of panic wash over her.
“Mom, they are going to believe her,” Clara cried, staring at her phone screen in horror.
“People are already leaving nasty comments about me, calling me a liar.”
Sarah didn't panic at all; she merely smiled a cold, calculated smile.
“Let her dig her own grave, Clara,” Sarah said softly.
“She just handed us the perfect opportunity to destroy them publicly.”
Sarah contacted the manager of Le Petit Bijou, who had already become very sympathetic to Clara’s terrifying ordeal.
He completely agreed to release the high-definition security footage of the assault to the local news stations.
By six o'clock that evening, Sylvia’s fabricated Facebook video was completely overshadowed by the evening news broadcast.
The news anchor played the silent security footage of Marcus violently grabbing Clara by the hair while Sylvia sat there smiling and clapping.
The contrast between Sylvia’s tearful victim routine and the undeniable reality of her cruelty was absolutely devastating.
The internet exploded in absolute outrage, completely tearing Sylvia and Marcus apart in the comments section.
Sylvia’s country club immediately revoked her membership to avoid the terrible public relations nightmare.
Marcus’s few remaining business associates immediately cut all ties with him, refusing to be associated with a public abuser.
Their social circle completely shunned them, leaving them isolated, hated, and entirely broke.
Clara watched the news broadcast from the safety of her living room, feeling a massive weight finally lift off her shoulders.
