Chapter 2 - The Arrest

The moment those words left Clara’s lips, the entire atmosphere in the restaurant shifted permanently.
Marcus’s fake, charming smile dissolved into a mask of pure, unadulterated fury.
“You stupid, ungrateful girl, you are going to regret saying that,” Marcus snarled, taking a threatening step toward her.
He didn't even get to take a second step before two officers aggressively pinned him against the marble pillar.
The sharp, metallic click of handcuffs echoed through the silent dining room, sounding like a beautiful symphony to Sarah’s ears.
“Marcus Thorne, you are under arrest for domestic battery,” the officer stated clearly, reading him his rights.
Sylvia let out a dramatic, piercing scream, clutching her pearl necklace as if she were about to faint.
“You cannot arrest him, do you know who we are?!” Sylvia demanded, stepping into the officer’s path.
“We are the Thorne family, we own half the real estate in this district, you will all lose your jobs!”
The officer simply side-stepped her, completely unimpressed by her desperate threats of wealth and power.
“Ma'am, if you interfere with this arrest, you will be leaving in the back of a squad car right next to him,” the officer warned sternly.
Sylvia gasped, her face turning an ugly shade of purple as she watched her precious son being paraded out of the restaurant in handcuffs.
Diners began to pull out their phones, snapping photos and recording videos of the prominent businessman being humiliated.
Marcus kept his head down, the reality of his public downfall finally crashing down on his arrogant shoulders.
The restaurant manager approached Sarah and Clara, holding a small digital tablet in his trembling hands.
“Ladies, I have already downloaded the security footage from the dining room cameras,” he said respectfully.
“It clearly shows him assaulting you, and I have handed a copy directly to the police.”
Clara let out a massive breath she didn't know she was holding, tears of sheer relief spilling over her eyelashes.
Sarah hugged her daughter fiercely, shielding her from the flashing cameras of the other patrons.
Sylvia stood alone at the table, her plum lipstick completely ruined by her furious scowl.
“You are going to pay for this, Sarah,” Sylvia hissed, her voice dripping with venom.
“I am cutting Clara off entirely, she will be left with absolutely nothing when my son is done with her.”

Sarah let out a dark, genuine laugh that echoed across the empty tables.
“You don't have a dime to cut her off from, Sylvia, and we both know it.”
