Chapter 5 - The Bail

Marcus managed to make bail three days later, using a predatory loan shark because all of his legitimate accounts were frozen.
He walked out of the police station looking completely disheveled, his designer suit wrinkled and his arrogance severely bruised.
Sylvia was waiting for him in a cheap rental car, complaining loudly about how her country club friends were refusing to return her calls.
“We need to get to Clara’s house and force her to drop these ridiculous charges,” Sylvia demanded, tapping the steering wheel.
“She is just being manipulated by that awful mother of hers.”
Marcus nodded darkly, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles were completely white.
“She is going to pay for humiliating me like this,” Marcus muttered, his ego completely shattered.
They drove to the beautiful suburban home that Clara had purchased entirely with her own hard-earned money.
Marcus stormed up the driveway, fully expecting Clara to cower in fear the moment he raised his voice.
He violently turned the doorknob, expecting to barge right in and take control of the situation.
But the locks had already been completely changed.
Furious, Marcus began pounding his fists aggressively against the heavy wooden door.
“Clara, open this door right now, or I swear I will break it down!” Marcus roared, completely losing his temper.
The door didn't open.
Instead, the garage door slowly rolled up, revealing two massive, heavily armed private security guards.
Sarah stepped out from behind the guards, holding a thick manila envelope in her hands.
“You have exactly ten seconds to step off my daughter’s property before they forcefully remove you,” Sarah warned calmly.
Marcus took a step back, suddenly realizing he was completely outmatched and outgunned.
“This is my house, I have every right to be here!” Marcus yelled, though his voice cracked with uncertainty.
Sarah tossed the manila envelope onto the driveway, right at Marcus's feet.
“That is a permanent restraining order signed by a judge this morning,” Sarah stated flatly.
“It explicitly states that if you come within five hundred feet of Clara, you will go straight back to a jail cell.”
Sylvia rolled down the window of the rental car, her face twisted in absolute fury.
“You cannot do this to us, we are a respected family!” Sylvia shrieked.
“You are a pair of broke, abusive con artists,” Sarah corrected sharply.
“Now pick up your papers and get out of our sight before I call the police again.”
May you like
Marcus stared at the guards, then at the paperwork on the ground, completely defeated.
He snatched the envelope off the pavement and stormed back to the cheap rental car in utter humiliation.
