Chapter 7 - The Courtroom

The day of the final divorce hearing arrived, and the courtroom was packed with journalists and curious spectators.

Marcus walked into the room wearing a cheap, off-the-rack suit, looking completely exhausted and entirely defeated.

Sylvia sat in the back row, wearing sunglasses indoors and hiding her face from the cameras.

Clara walked in wearing a stunning, tailored white suit, radiating an aura of absolute confidence and unshakeable strength.

She sat perfectly straight beside Attorney Richard Vance, never once breaking eye contact with the judge.

Marcus’s cheap public defender tried desperately to paint Clara as a vindictive woman who was exaggerating a minor argument.

“Your Honor, my client simply lost his temper during a highly stressful financial discussion,” the defense attorney pleaded.

“He is a good man who deserves half of the marital assets to rebuild his life.”

Richard Vance stood up slowly, adjusting his tie with a terrifyingly calm demeanor.

“Your Honor, Marcus Thorne did not lose his temper over a financial discussion,” Richard stated clearly.

“He used physical violence to maintain total control over a woman he was systematically robbing blind.”

Richard walked over to the evidence projector and displayed the forensic accounting documents for the entire courtroom to see.

He meticulously traced every single stolen dollar from Clara’s paycheck directly into Marcus’s secret offshore accounts.

He showed the massive country club fees, the luxury car leases, and the expensive vacations that Marcus had secretly funded with Clara’s money.

“This man is not a victim, Your Honor, he is a calculated financial predator,” Richard concluded powerfully.

The judge stared at the documents, then looked down at Marcus with absolute disgust.

“Mr. Thorne, you have completely abused the trust of this marriage in every conceivable way,” the judge stated sternly.

“You physically assaulted your wife in public, and you systematically stole her life savings.”

Marcus kept his head down, completely unable to meet the harsh, unforgiving gaze of the judge.

Clara sat quietly, feeling an overwhelming sense of justice finally taking root in her heart.
