Chapter 8 - The Ghost in the System

Thorne kicked the doors open. He held an assault rifle, leveling it at Clara's two private bodyguards, who immediately raised their hands in surrender.
Mrs. Gable walked in, her chin held high, holding Lily by the hand. Lily was clutching the heavy leather briefcase from the vault.
"Don't sign a single thing," Mrs. Gable announced, her voice echoing through the silent, shocked boardroom.
"Guards!" Clara shrieked, her composure shattering. "Shoot them! Get them out of here!"
But Thorne’s shadow unit had already disabled the syndicate's men in the stairwells. Clara was entirely alone.
Lily walked up to the glass table. She didn't look scared. She looked exactly like her grandfather. She hoisted the heavy briefcase onto the table and popped the latches.
