Chapter 5 - The Bailout

Clara Sterling did not stay in jail.
By 9:00 AM, her syndicate’s lawyers had manipulated a corrupt judge, securing her release on a record-breaking two-hundred-million-dollar bail.
Clara walked out of the courthouse in a pristine white suit, her face a mask of cold fury. She stepped into the back of a waiting armored Maybach.
"Did you get the girl?" Clara snapped at the man sitting in the shadows of the backseat.
"No," the mercenary replied. "Arthur had a ghost team watching her. They took her to the bank."

Clara’s manicured nails dug into her leather purse. If Lily presented that briefcase to the board of directors at the noon emergency meeting, Clara would lose everything.
"Lock down the Sterling Tower," Clara ordered. "Cancel all security protocols. Bring in our own men. If that old nanny and the brat step foot in the lobby, shoot them on sight. I don't care how messy it gets."
