Chapter 7 - The Arrest

Diane's arrogance ultimately proved to be her spectacular undoing.

She believed that her wealth and social status would protect her from any real consequences.

She was dead wrong.

On a bright Tuesday morning, two federal investigators and three local police officers arrived at Diane's sprawling suburban estate.

Michael had officially filed his police report regarding the theft of his medical identity.

Furthermore, Dr. Keller had provided the medical board with the forged documents and the financial records of the bribe.

Diane was sitting on her back patio, sipping mimosas with her country club friends, when the officers walked through the garden gates.

"Diane Sterling, you are under arrest for medical fraud, identity theft, and conspiracy," the lead detective announced loudly.

Her friends gasped in absolute horror as the officers pulled Diane out of her expensive patio chair.

"Get your hands off me! Do you know who my husband was?" Diane shrieked, struggling against the cold steel handcuffs.

"We don't care, ma'am," the officer replied, securing her wrists tightly behind her back.

They marched her in front of her wealthy neighbors, placing her in the back of a marked squad car.

The local news stations got ahold of the story by that evening.

The wealthy socialite who destroyed her son's marriage with a fake medical report was suddenly the laughingstock of the entire city.

Ryan tried to post her bail, but because all of his financial assets were still frozen by my lawyer, he didn't have the cash.

Diane was forced to spend three full nights sleeping on a thin mattress in the county jail.

Her pristine reputation was permanently, irreparably destroyed.
