Chapter 6 - The Birth of the Truth

Four weeks later, on a beautifully crisp autumn morning, my water officially broke.

This time, there was no panic and no dramatic hospital showdowns.

My parents drove me to the maternity ward, and Eleanor ensured that my medical file was marked highly confidential.

Neither Ryan nor Diane were notified of my admission.

After twelve grueling hours of intense labor, I finally heard the beautiful, piercing cry of my newborn son.

The nurses placed him on my chest, and I wept tears of pure, unadulterated joy.

He had a full head of dark hair and perfect, tiny fingers that grasped tightly onto mine.

"He is absolutely beautiful, Claire," Dr. Keller smiled, checking my vitals.

Before I even left the hospital, I requested a legally binding, court-ordered DNA test to be performed.

I wanted an irrefutable piece of paper that proved Ryan was the biological father, effectively destroying Diane's entire narrative.

The swab was taken, sealed by a third-party witness, and sent to an independent, accredited laboratory.

I took my beautiful son, whom I named Leo, home to my parents' house two days later.

The DNA results arrived in the mail the following week, printed on crisp, official letterhead.

Probability of Paternity: 99.99%.

I took a picture of the results with my phone and sent a single, silent text message to Ryan's number.

I didn't add a caption, a threat, or a demand.

I just let the overwhelming, crushing weight of his monumental mistake speak for itself.

According to Michael, Ryan completely broke down in his apartment, smashing his living room television and sobbing until he vomited.

He finally realized exactly what he had thrown away.
