Chapter 4 - The Asset Freeze

By Friday, the legal war had officially commenced.

Eleanor filed an emergency injunction to completely freeze all of Ryan's financial assets.

Because we were legally married, the courts quickly approved the measure to prevent him from hiding any marital funds.

Ryan's credit cards were declined, his bank accounts were locked, and his access to our joint savings was instantly revoked.

Diane, furious that her grand plan was falling apart, attempted to transfer a large sum of money from Ryan's account into her own.

The bank immediately flagged the transaction as fraudulent, alerting Eleanor's legal team.

"Your mother-in-law is not very smart," Eleanor told me over the phone, sounding highly amused.

"She just committed wire fraud across state lines in a desperate attempt to hide your marital money."

I smiled, rubbing my swollen belly as the baby gave a strong, healthy kick.

Meanwhile, Michael had finally confronted his mother about the stolen fertility records.

He called me that evening, his voice trembling with a mixture of profound grief and intense rage.

"She admitted it, Claire," Michael cried softly into the phone.

"She told me that my sterility was a family shame, but at least she could use it to save Ryan from you."

I felt a sharp pang of sympathy for Michael, who was simply collateral damage in Diane's wicked game.

"What are you going to do?" I asked him gently.

"I am pressing charges," Michael stated, his voice hardening with newfound resolve.

"I am going to testify against her in court."

With Michael turning against his own mother, Diane's entire world was beginning to spectacularly collapse.

But a cornered animal is the most dangerous kind, and Diane was not ready to surrender just yet.
