Chapter 3 - The Confrontation

Greg did not hesitate.
He walked straight to the front door and threw it open before my father could even knock.
“Get off my property,” Greg warned, blocking the entrance with his broad shoulders.
My father tried to push his way inside, his face red with fury.
“This is family business, Greg, so step aside,” my father demanded.
“You lost the right to call yourself family when you threw a baby into the snow,” I shouted, stepping up beside my husband.
My mother stood behind him, crying those fake, manipulative tears she always used to get her way.
“Megan, please, you have to give us that flash drive,” she begged.
“Trevor’s family is very conservative, and if they find out Lauren had an illegitimate child, they will annul the marriage.”
I looked at my mother with absolute disgust.
“You care more about a billionaire’s money than your own granddaughter,” I said, my voice completely cold.
“Sophie is not a secret to be swept under the rug.”
My father’s expression turned lethal.
“If you ruin your sister’s life, I will destroy you,” he threatened.
“I will hire the best lawyers in this state and prove you are unfit parents.”
“Try it,” Greg shot back fiercely.
“Because tomorrow morning, I am taking this flash drive to the police.”
My father realized we were not going to back down.
He grabbed my mother’s arm and dragged her back toward their expensive car.
“You just declared war, Megan,” he yelled over his shoulder.

I closed the door and locked the deadbolt.
The war had definitely started, but I was ready to fight to the death for my daughter.
