Chapter 10 - The Real Family

A year has passed since the trial ended, and our lives have completely transformed.

The nightmare is finally behind us.

We moved to a new city, buying a beautiful house with a big backyard.

David used the GoFundMe money raised by his supporters to open his own photography studio.

He visits us often, and Sophie affectionately calls him "Uncle David."

Today is Sophie’s eighth birthday party.

The backyard is filled with balloons, laughter, and kids running through the sprinklers.

She is wearing a bright blue dress, twirling in the sunshine without a care in the world.

She doesn't remember the drama of the wedding, and we intend to keep it that way until she is old enough to understand.

I watch her blow out the candles on her cake, completely surrounded by people who genuinely love her.

Blood does not make a family.

Love, sacrifice, and showing up every single day is what makes a family.

Greg wraps his arms around my waist, kissing my cheek.

“We did it,” he whispers in my ear.

“We protected our girl.”

I lean back against him, watching Sophie laugh with her friends.

The shadows of the past are entirely gone.

Our family is whole, happy, and forever unbreakable.
