Chapter 13 - The Confrontation

I spun on my heels and sprinted toward the kitchen service doors, just as Marcus and I had planned. I burst through the swinging doors into a maze of stainless steel counters and steaming stoves.
"Sarah!" Arthur roared, crashing through the doors seconds behind me. The kitchen staff had already evacuated, frightened by the chaos in the ballroom. We were completely alone.
He pulled a small, silver handgun from his tuxedo jacket.
"You stupid, meddling bitch," Arthur spat, breathing heavily as he cornered me near the walk-in freezer. "You should have just fed the damn fish and minded your own business."
"You killed my sister," I said, refusing to break eye contact, refusing to show him the absolute terror freezing my veins. "You locked a child in a basement to rot. It's over, Arthur."
"It's never over," he laughed darkly, raising the gun. "I have enough money to disappear forever. But I'm going to enjoy this."
"I don't think so," a voice echoed from the kitchen entrance.

Arthur spun around. Standing there, flanked by a dozen FBI agents in tactical gear, was Marcus. And beside him, holding his head high, was Leo.
"Drop the weapon, Pendelton!" the lead agent shouted, laser sights painting a red constellation on Arthur’s chest.
