Chapter 12 - The Truth Echoes

The giant screens behind Arthur, meant to display his campaign logo, suddenly flickered. The ballroom plunged into total darkness for three terrifying seconds.
When the lights snapped back on, Arthur’s campaign logo was gone.
In its place were high-resolution images of bank transfers, cartel logos, and Arthur’s forged signatures. The crowd began to murmur in confusion.
"Cut the feed!" Arthur bellowed at the sound booth, abandoning his charming facade. "Security, get her!" He pointed directly at me.
But before his guards could move, the speakers crackled with deafening volume.
"You can't do this, Arthur!" My sister Claire’s voice filled the massive ballroom, echoing off the chandeliers. The entire crowd froze in absolute shock. "You bankrupted your brother’s estate! That money belongs to Leo!" "Keep your voice down, Claire." Arthur's recorded voice dripped with venom.
"Turn it off!" Arthur screamed, his face purple with rage. He lunged off the stage, barreling through the wealthy donors, his eyes fixed on me with murderous intent.

"I'm going to the police tomorrow," Claire's voice threatened over the speakers. Then came the scuffle. The scream. The thud.
The ballroom erupted into sheer panic. Screams filled the air. Donors rushed for the exits, trampling over each other to escape the exploding scandal. But Arthur didn't run for the door. He ran for me.
