Chapter 7 - The Begging Game

With Liam unemployed and broke, the Sterling family lost their luxury mansion to foreclosure.

They were forced to move into a tiny, cramped apartment on the outskirts of the city.

Chloe was out on bail, but she had a criminal record and could no longer find a job.

Mrs. Sterling’s rich friends had completely abandoned her, treating her like a contagious disease.

They had finally hit rock bottom.

One rainy evening, I was leaving a high-profile charity gala in downtown.

As I walked toward my waiting limousine, a disheveled woman threw herself at my feet.

It was Mrs. Sterling.

Her expensive clothes were ruined, and her hair was a tangled, wet mess.

"Nora, please! Have mercy on us!" she sobbed, clutching my ankles.

My security guards instantly stepped forward to pull her away, but I held up my hand.

"Let her speak," I said coldly, looking down at the woman who had made my life a living hell.

"We have nothing left, Nora! We can't even afford Chloe's legal fees!" she cried.

"Liam is drinking himself to sleep every night."

"Please, just give us a little money, I will do anything!"

I stared at her, remembering the night she tried to strip me in front of hundreds of people.

"Did you show me mercy when you called me a thief?" I asked quietly.

"I was wrong! I am so sorry!" she wailed, tears mixing with the rain.

"Your apology is useless to me," I stated, pulling my foot away from her grasp.

"You wanted me to have nothing, and now, you get to experience exactly how that feels."

I stepped into my warm limousine and closed the door without a second glance.
