Chapter 2 - The Setup Revealed

Mrs. Sterling shook her head violently, pointing a trembling finger at me.
"She is lying! She is a gold-digger who stole the Sterling family heirloom!" she shrieked.
"The diamond necklace went missing right after she walked into the dressing room!" Chloe added desperately.
Arthur snapped his fingers, and two of his men immediately stepped toward Chloe.
"What are you doing? Get away from me!" Chloe screamed as they grabbed her designer handbag.
One of the men opened the bag and casually dumped its contents onto the pristine marble floor.
Lipstick, a wallet, a phone, and a glittering diamond necklace spilled out for everyone to see.
The room went dead silent.
"It seems the thief was the one screaming the loudest," Arthur noted coldly.
Mrs. Sterling stared at the necklace on the floor, her face turning a bright, humiliated shade of red.
"Chloe, what is the meaning of this?" Liam demanded, finally finding a tiny shred of courage.
Chloe backed away, stammering and crying fake tears.
"I... I just wanted to teach her a lesson! She doesn't belong with us!" Chloe sobbed.
I laughed, a harsh and bitter sound that echoed through the quiet room.
"You are absolutely right, Chloe."
"I don't belong in a family of pathetic, manipulative cowards."
I turned to Liam, who was already reaching his hand out to me in a desperate plea.
"Nora, please, I didn't know she planted it," Liam begged.
"You didn't know, but you stood there and told them to strip me in public," I reminded him fiercely.
"A real man protects his wife, Liam, but you just threw me to the wolves."

I turned my back on him and signaled to Arthur.
"We are leaving."
