Chapter 7 - The Ambush at Pier 44

Midnight arrived with a thick, rolling fog over the New York harbor.

Pier 44 was dead quiet, save for the sound of waves slapping against the wooden pylons.

Three large cargo trucks sat parked in the center of the dock.

Suddenly, the screech of tires shattered the silence as Lorenzo's heavily armed convoy arrived.

Dozens of Lorenzo's men poured out of their vehicles, weapons raised.

They moved quickly toward the trucks, expecting an easy multi-million dollar score.

Lorenzo himself stepped out of an armored SUV, looking triumphant.

"Open them up!" Lorenzo shouted to his men, gesturing to the cargo doors.

A thug ripped the padlock off the first truck and threw open the metal doors.

It was completely empty.

Before Lorenzo could process the betrayal, the floodlights on the surrounding cranes snapped on.

The pier was suddenly brighter than daylight, blinding Lorenzo's crew.

"Kill them all," Aleandro’s voice boomed over a hidden loudspeaker.

From the rooftops of the warehouses, Marco and fifty of the Moretti family's best shooters opened fire.

It wasn't a battle; it was an execution.

Lorenzo dove behind his armored car as his men were cut down in seconds.

He realized too late that the little bird had lured him into the jaws of a wolf.
