Chapter 2 - The Ghost in the Machine

As soon as Isabella went up to bed, Aleandro summoned Marco.
His second-in-command walked in, expecting a drink, but found Aleandro holding a frequency scanner.
"Boss?" Marco asked, his hand instinctively dropping to his holster.
Aleandro pointed to the painting, his face carved from stone.
"There is a military-grade bug behind my father's portrait."
Marco’s blood ran cold, his eyes widening in pure shock.
"Who?" Marco demanded, his voice dropping to a lethal whisper.
"Isabella," Aleandro said, the name tasting like ash in his mouth.
Marco stepped back, ready to draw his weapon and march upstairs.
"No," Aleandro commanded, raising a hand to stop him.
"If she wanted me dead, she could have poisoned my drink an hour ago."
"She looked terrified on the security footage, Marco."
"Someone is pulling her strings, and I want to know who is holding them."
"Trace the encrypted signal, find the receiver's location, and do not let anyone sleep until it is done."
Marco nodded slowly, understanding the dangerous game they were about to play.
They were going to turn the hunter into the hunted.
