Chapter 8 - The Confrontation

Before heading to Queens, Matteo took a detour back to the Rossi penthouse. He had the location, but he needed Camilla to know the game was over.
He walked into the master bedroom. Camilla was pacing nervously, clutching her phone. When she saw Matteo, she froze. He was supposed to be at the docks, managing the 'diamond shipment.'
"Matteo? What are you doing home?"
Matteo locked the bedroom door behind him. He walked over to his jacket, reached into the pocket, and tossed the silver transmitter onto the white linen bedsheets.
Camilla stared at the small metal bug. The color drained entirely from her face. Her legs gave out, and she collapsed onto the edge of the bed, covering her mouth as a sob tore through her throat.
"How long have you known?" she choked out.
"Long enough to feed your handlers fake intel," Matteo said coldly. "Long enough to ambush them at Pier 42. Long enough to break their lieutenant's knees and find out they’re holding your brother in an old slaughterhouse in Queens."
Camilla looked up, her eyes wide with shock and absolute terror. "You know about Julian? Matteo, please... they said they would kill him! They sent me a video of him bleeding... I had no choice!"
She fell to her knees on the plush carpet, reaching out to grab his hands. "Kill me. Do whatever you want to me. I betrayed you. But please, please save him. He’s innocent. He’s all the family I have left."

Matteo looked down at the woman he loved. She was broken, drowning in guilt and fear. He reached down, gripped her arms, and pulled her to her feet.
"I am not going to kill you, Camilla," he said, his voice softening just a fraction. "You are going to be my wife. And nobody threatens a Rossi bride."
