Chapter 18 - A New Chapter

Months turned into a year. The Rossi syndicate flourished, transitioning into highly lucrative, legitimate businesses under Matteo’s sharp direction. The violence of the past was buried with Don Moretti.

Camilla had taken over the philanthropic arm of the Rossi enterprises, funding orphanages and college scholarships for underprivileged youth in the city. She had transformed the blood money of the mafia into a force for genuine good.

One winter evening, as the snow fell heavily outside the penthouse windows, Matteo sat by the fire, reviewing shipping manifests.

Camilla walked into the room, holding a small, wrapped box. She sat on his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"Is it my birthday already?" Matteo joked, setting his paperwork aside.

"Open it," she insisted, her eyes sparkling with tears of joy.

Matteo untied the ribbon and opened the small box. Inside was a tiny, knitted pair of baby booties, and a silver rattle.

Matteo froze, his breath catching in his throat. He looked up at Camilla, his tough, mob-boss exterior completely melting away. "Camilla... are you...?"

May you like

She nodded, wiping a tear from her cheek. "I'm pregnant, Matteo. We're going to have a baby."

Matteo pulled her into a crushing hug, burying his face in her neck. For a man who had built his life around death and destruction, the promise of new life was the greatest treasure he could ever possess.
