Chapter 10 - The Meat Locker

Beneath the grim streets of Queens, Dante waded through knee-deep sludge in the storm drains, leading a team of ten elite Rossi commandos dressed in tactical black. They moved in total silence, navigating by the blueprints Matteo had procured years ago.
Above them, the old slaughterhouse loomed. Dante stopped beneath a heavy iron grate that led directly into the basement’s industrial meat locker.
"Breaching charges," Dante whispered into his comms.
Two commandos attached silent, thermal-cutting explosives to the hinges of the grate.
Meanwhile, a mile away, Matteo’s armored convoy roared down the empty avenues, heading straight for the front gates of the Moretti compound. Matteo sat in the back of his SUV, checking the magazine of his custom Beretta. Camilla was safely locked away in a fortified Rossi safe house, heavily guarded.
"Dante," Matteo spoke into his earpiece. "Status."
"In position, Boss. Waiting for the distraction."
"Give me two minutes," Matteo replied.
The convoy rounded the corner, coming face to face with the rusted iron gates of the slaughterhouse. A dozen Moretti guards were positioned on the roof with sniper rifles, and twenty more stood behind the barricades, waiting for Matteo to step out and surrender.

"Light them up," Matteo ordered his driver.
The lead Rossi SUV accelerated, smashing straight through the iron gates. The doors flew open, and Matteo’s men began laying down heavy suppressive fire, lighting up the night with tracer rounds. The distraction had begun.
