Chapter 9 - Clash in the Shadows

He stepped into the room, holding a heavy metal crowbar in his right hand.

“Come out, come out, wherever you are!” he sang in a chilling, melodic voice.

He smashed a nearby lamp with the crowbar, laughing as the glass shattered.

I held my breath, gripping the handle of the knife until my knuckles ached.

He moved closer to the hallway, stepping right into my trap.

I lunged from the darkness, driving the knife straight toward his shoulder.

The blade sank deep into his flesh, and he let out a deafening roar of pain.

He dropped the crowbar and wildly backhanded me across the face.

The force of the blow threw me against the coffee table, and the knife slipped from my grasp.

My vision spun, but I refused to stay down.

He pulled the knife from his shoulder with a wet tearing sound, his face twisted in murderous rage.

He advanced toward me, kicking the table out of the way.

I scrambled backward, my fingers desperately searching the floor for a weapon.

My hand brushed against the cold metal of the crowbar he had dropped.

As he raised the knife to bring it down on me, I swung the heavy iron bar upward with absolutely everything I had.

It struck him directly under the chin with a sickening crunch.

His eyes rolled back into his head, and his massive body collapsed onto the floor like a felled tree.

He didn't move again.
