Chapter 10 - Safe at Last

I didn't stop watching his body until the backup police sirens wailed in the distance.
The officers stormed the cabin, securing the monster who had tried to destroy our lives.
The guard at the end of the road had thankfully survived the attack and managed to call for help.
David Kinsley was handcuffed, heavily bleeding, and dragged away to spend the rest of his miserable life behind bars.
I ran to the bedroom closet and pulled my weeping daughter into my arms.
We held each other as the storm outside finally began to pass.
It has been three years since that terrifying night in the cabin.
We moved to a different state, changed our names, and started entirely over.
Lily is nine years old now, and the vibrant, joyful girl I thought I had lost has finally returned.
She laughs loudly, plays soccer, and talks endlessly about her friends at school.
She still has moments of fear, and bath time was replaced by showers with the door wide open, but she is healing.
I still work hard, but I no longer look for a savior to rescue us from our struggles.
