Chapter 6 - A Predator Unmasked

I didn't stop driving until I saw the glowing blue sign of the local police precinct.

I carried Lily, still wrapped in the blanket, straight through the double doors.

The desk sergeant took one look at my bruised neck and Lily’s traumatized face and immediately called for help.

Within minutes, we were in a secure room with a female detective named Ramirez.

I poured out everything, from the bruises to the terrifying scene I had just witnessed.

Detective Ramirez was calm, taking notes and taking photos of the marks on my neck.

A female officer brought Lily some dry clothes and a juice box, sitting with her gently.

“We are sending a squad car to your apartment right now to apprehend him,” Ramirez assured me.

But an hour later, the officers reported back that the apartment was completely empty.

Marcus had packed a duffel bag, emptied the safe, and vanished into the night.

That was when the detective ran a deeper background check on the name he had given me.

She returned to the room with a grim expression on her face.

“Sarah, the man you married isn't Marcus Thorne,” she said softly.

“His real name is David Kinsley, and he has warrants in three different states.”

My stomach dropped as she explained his horrifying past.

He was a predator, and I had invited him straight into my home.
