Chapter 4 - A Mother's Fury

I kicked the bathroom door open with so much force that the wood splintered around the hinges.

Marcus spun around, his eyes widening in pure shock as he saw me standing there.

“Sarah!” he stammered, dropping his hand from Lily. “You’re home early.”

I didn't say a single word.

I grabbed a heavy, ceramic soap dispenser from the counter and swung it with all my might.

It connected sickeningly with the side of his head.

The ceramic shattered, and Marcus stumbled backward, clutching his bleeding temple.

He slipped on the wet floor tiles and crashed heavily against the toilet.

“Mommy!” Lily finally screamed, a heartbreaking sound of pure terror and relief.

“Get out of the tub, baby, run to my room!” I yelled.

Lily scrambled out, water pouring off her shivering body, and darted down the hall.

Marcus roared in anger and lunged at me, his charming facade completely destroyed.

He grabbed my throat, slamming me against the bathroom wall.

“You shouldn't have done that, Sarah,” he spat, spraying blood on my face.

I couldn't breathe, but my adrenaline gave me strength I never knew I possessed.

I brought my knee up as hard as I could, striking him squarely between the legs.

He groaned in agony and dropped to the floor, releasing his grip on my neck.

I gasped for air, stepped over his writhing body, and ran toward my bedroom.
