Chapter 3 - Desperate Measures

I looked around the trauma bay for anything that could help us.

A scalpel wouldn't do much against a loaded gun.

The oxygen tanks were heavy, but they were explosive.

Seven.

Six.

Five.

"Doctor, what do we do?" Sarah whispered, tears streaming down her terrified face.

"Stay down," I commanded, grabbing a heavy metal IV pole.

Four.

Three.

Two.

I didn't wait for him to reach one.

I grabbed the heavy red fire extinguisher from the wall and slammed it into the emergency release panel of the automatic doors.

The doors hissed and slid open just as Greg fired his weapon.

The bullet shattered the glass behind me, raining sharp fragments over the floor.

I unleashed a massive cloud of thick, white chemical foam directly into his face.

Greg screamed, dropping the hostage and clawing blindly at his burning eyes.

The hostage scrambled away, crawling desperately down the hallway.

I lunged forward, swinging the heavy metal fire extinguisher with every ounce of strength I had.

It connected with his wrist, and a sickening crunch echoed through the corridor.

The gun clattered to the linoleum floor.

But Greg was massive, fueled by adrenaline and rage.

He tackled me to the ground, his heavy hands wrapping around my throat.
