Chapter 8 - The Legal Wall

Jessica glared at Dr. Evans, realizing she had completely lost the upper hand.

She shot me one final, venomous look before storming out of the clinic, slamming the glass door behind her.

I was trembling, but Dr. Evans gently placed a hand on my shoulder.

“Are you okay, Sarah?” he asked kindly.

“I’m fine,” I lied, trying to steady my breathing.

“You need to protect yourself legally,” he advised, leading me into his private office.

“People like that don't stop until the law forces them to.”

He gave me the business card of a tough family lawyer he knew.

I called the lawyer that very afternoon.

Using the $1,500 I would have wasted on those stupid laptops, I put down a retainer.

The lawyer drafted a formal Cease and Desist letter.

It explicitly stated that Brenda and Jessica were forbidden from contacting me, coming to my home, or visiting my workplace.

It also formally notified Brenda that I would no longer be a guarantor on her apartment lease.

When the legal courier delivered the letters to them, the silence that followed was deafening.

They finally understood that the old Sarah was dead.

I had built a legal wall around my life, and they could not climb over it.

I felt incredibly empowered.

I was no longer a victim of their emotional abuse.

I was a mother, defending her child's peace at all costs.
