Chapter 7 - The Confrontation at the Clinic

Two weeks passed in relative peace.

I was settling into my routine with Maya, enjoying the quiet moments of early motherhood.

But toxic people never surrender without a final, explosive fight.

Since they couldn't reach me by phone, Jessica decided to escalate things.

I was on maternity leave, but I stopped by the veterinary clinic to drop off some paperwork for my boss, Dr. Evans.

I had Maya strapped to my chest in a baby carrier.

I was chatting with the receptionist when the front door flew open.

Jessica marched in, looking like a hurricane of cheap perfume and misplaced anger.

“There you are!” she shrieked, pointing at me in front of the horrified clients in the waiting room.

“You coward!”

“You ruined our reputation, and now Mom is getting evicted because you stopped paying her lease!”

I stepped back, instinctively covering Maya’s head with my hand.

“Jessica, leave right now, or I will call the police,” I warned her calmly.

“Call them!” she dared, stepping closer.

“Tell them how you abandoned your own family to starve!”

Before I could say another word, Dr. Evans stepped out of exam room three.

He was a tall, no-nonsense man who had treated me like a daughter for years.

“Excuse me,” Dr. Evans boomed, his voice echoing in the quiet lobby.

“You are trespassing on private property, and you are threatening my employee.”

Jessica spun around, trying to look intimidating.

“This is a family matter!” she spat.

“Not anymore,” Dr. Evans replied, picking up the front desk phone.

“I am dialing 911.”

“You have exactly ten seconds to get out of my clinic.”
