Chapter 7 - The Collapse of Lies

Judge Davis adjusted her reading glasses and spent five agonizingly silent minutes flipping through our airtight evidence.
The silence in the courtroom was so heavy you could hear a pin drop, completely suffocating Evan and his arrogant mother.
“Mr. Mercer,” the judge finally spoke, her voice laced with a terrifying authority.
“Are you aware of the penalties for presenting forged legal documents to a court of law?”
Evan swallowed hard, stammering as he tried to speak.
“Your Honor, I—I don't know what they gave you, but my wife signed that deed willingly!”
Marcus didn't miss a beat, handing the judge another crisp folder.
“Your Honor, this is IP address data proving the offshore accounts where the stolen loan money was deposited were accessed exclusively from Mr. Mercer’s personal laptop.”
Evan’s cheap lawyer immediately stood up, looking pale and completely panicked.
“Your Honor, I must withdraw myself as counsel for Mr. Mercer at this time, as I was unaware of these fraudulent activities.”
Brenda shrieked from the gallery, completely losing her refined, upper-class facade.
“This is a setup by that vindictive old witch!” she screamed, pointing violently at me.
The judge slammed her gavel down with tremendous force.
“Bailiff, remove that woman from my courtroom immediately!”
Two large deputies grabbed Brenda by the arms, dragging her kicking and screaming out into the hallway.
Evan looked absolutely pathetic, a small, cowardly man suddenly stripped of all his stolen power.

“Emergency custody is granted fully and exclusively to the mother, Delilah Mercer,” the judge declared firmly.
“And I am forwarding this entire evidentiary file directly to the District Attorney for immediate criminal prosecution.”
