Chapter 4 - The Ambush

Two days later, the trap began to spring perfectly into place when Evan aggressively knocked on my front door.

Delilah flinched violently at the sound of his heavy fists, grabbing Noah and pulling him into the hallway.

I patted her shoulder reassuringly, checked the hidden camera I had installed on my porch, and opened the door.

Evan stood there looking furious, holding a stack of legally intimidating, yet entirely fake, eviction and divorce papers.

“I know she’s in there hiding behind you,” Evan yelled, trying to push past me into my own home.

I planted my feet firmly, blocking his path, staring directly into his cowardly eyes.

“You are not welcome here, Evan,” I said clearly, ensuring the microphone picked up every single word.

“I came for the car keys,” he demanded, waving the papers in my face.

“Since Delilah abandoned the marital home, the car legally belongs to me, and I’m taking it today.”

I looked at the documents he was holding, noticing the fake letterhead that carried no actual court seal.

“You kicked your wife and child out onto the street, forcing them to sleep in a grocery store parking lot,” I stated loudly for the recording.

“She chose to leave because she is mentally unstable, and my mother is a witness to her manic behavior!” he lied flawlessly.

He actually believed his own manipulated version of reality.

“Leave my property right now, or I will call the police and have you removed for trespassing,” I warned him.

He smirked, throwing the fake papers at my feet.

“See you in court, old woman, where I take full custody of Noah and leave your daughter with nothing.”

He turned and swaggered back to his expensive car—the car my daughter had paid for.

I picked up the papers, smiling to myself, knowing he had just provided Marcus with the final piece of evidence we needed.
