Chapter 6 - Securing the Threat

Emily collapsed back, sobbing hysterically as the adrenaline finally left her system.
Victoria lay on the floor, coughing and gagging as she tried to catch her breath.
I quickly moved to the hallway, retrieving the knife and tucking it into my belt.
I grabbed the torn bedsheets Victoria had used on Emily and pulled my wife to her feet.
"Move," I ordered, pushing Victoria roughly toward the heavy structural pillar in the master bedroom.
She stumbled forward, her previous arrogance completely shattered by fear.
I forced her to sit on the floor, wrapping the thick sheets tightly around her wrists and the pillar.
"You can't do this to me, Arthur!" she cried, her voice raspy and weak.
"I am your wife, the mother of your children!"
"You lost the right to call yourself a mother the moment you laid hands on Emily," I spat back.
I tied the final knot, ensuring it was tight enough that she could not possibly escape.
I walked back into the nursery, where Emily was gently rocking the crying twins.
Her hands were still bleeding, but her eyes were focused entirely on comforting my children.
"Are they okay?" I asked softly, my heart breaking at the sight of her bruised face.
"They are just scared, Mr. Cole," she whispered, kissing my daughter's forehead.
"We need to get to a phone," I said, looking at the signal jammer plugged into the wall.

I walked over and ripped the black device out of the electrical socket, smashing it under my heel.
Instantly, my cell phone chimed with incoming messages and full signal bars.
