Chapter 5 - The Loyal Nanny

Just as I thought I had her subdued, Victoria slammed her knee upward into my groin.

A blinding wave of agony washed over me, and my grip on her wrists loosened.

She pushed me off, scrambling desperately toward the crib where the knife lay hidden.

I tried to stand, but the pain forced me back onto my knees.

Victoria grabbed the handle of the knife, a triumphant, psychotic grin spreading across her face.

"Say goodbye, Arthur," she sneered, raising the blade to strike.

Suddenly, a loud tearing sound ripped through the nursery.

Emily had used the sharp edge of the metal bedframe to saw through her makeshift restraints.

With her hands finally free, she unbuckled the twins and laid them safely on the mattress.

Before Victoria could bring the knife down on me, Emily launched herself across the room.

She slammed into Victoria with the protective fury of a cornered mother.

Both women went crashing into the heavy wooden dresser.

The knife flew out of Victoria’s hand, clattering harmlessly into the hallway.

Emily pinned Victoria to the floor, wrapping her bleeding hands around my wife’s throat.

"You will never hurt my son again!" Emily screamed, tears streaming down her bruised face.

"And you will never touch these babies again!"

Victoria gasped for air, her face turning a deep shade of purple as she clawed at Emily’s arms.

I forced myself up, ignoring the agonizing pain in my body.

"Emily, stop!" I yelled, pulling the furious nanny off my gasping wife.

"She belongs in a prison cell, not in a body bag."
