Chapter 2 - The Monster Outside

"I know you are in there, Emily!" Victoria shouted, pounding her fist against the solid oak.

"If you woke my babies, I will make you regret the day you were born."

I looked at Emily, signaling her to stay completely silent.

I reached into my pocket and slowly pulled out my phone to dial 911.

But as I looked at the screen, I saw that I had zero bars of service.

Victoria had installed a signal jammer in the house, a security measure she insisted on for the babies.

Now, I realized it was a trap designed to cut us off from the outside world.

"You are testing my patience, you pathetic little servant," Victoria snarled, her voice dripping with venom.

"I have the master key, and when I come in there, you are finished."

I heard the metallic jingle of keys from the hallway.

I looked frantically around the nursery for anything I could use as a weapon.

My eyes landed on the heavy bronze lamp resting on the changing table.

I grabbed it by the base, my knuckles turning white as I gripped the cold metal.

The lock clicked loudly, and the doorknob began to turn.

I positioned myself behind the door, raising the heavy lamp above my shoulder.

The door swung inward, revealing Victoria standing there in her designer dress.

She held a sharp kitchen knife in her right hand, her eyes wide with manic rage.

She stepped into the room, expecting to find Emily helpless and alone.

Instead, she saw me.
