Chapter 4 - Starving the Beast

The next morning, I walked into the Vanguard Enterprises boardroom like a man going to war.

Marcus was already waiting for me, along with my ruthless legal team.

“Jessica is panicking,” Marcus reported, sliding a tablet across the table. “She tried to wire four million dollars from your joint accounts to an offshore account in the Caymans at 3:00 AM.”

“Did it go through?” I asked.

“Of course not,” my lead attorney smiled. “We froze every single asset connected to her name at midnight. Her credit cards are declining. Her car lease has been revoked. We even locked her out of the estate.”

“She thinks she can play dirty,” I said, buttoning my suit jacket. “But she forgot that I built this empire. She only played in it.”

My phone buzzed. It was Jessica. I put it on speaker and set it on the glass table.

“David!” she screamed. “My cards are declined! I’m standing at the airport trying to charter a flight and they’re telling me I have zero balance! Turn the accounts back on right now!”

“You’re not going anywhere, Jessica,” I said coldly.

“You can’t do this to me! I know all your corporate secrets! I’ll go to the press! I’ll tell them you beat me! I’ll ruin you!”

“Go ahead,” I replied. “But before you do, you should probably know that Marcus found Dr. Evans.”

Dead silence on the other end of the line.

“That’s right,” I continued. “The doctor you bribed to delete Sarah’s emergency contact logs and forge the CPS documents. He didn't want to lose his medical license, Jessica. He flipped on you. He gave us the recorded phone calls of you offering him the bribe.”

“David... please...” her voice shifted from rage to sheer terror.

“You have exactly one hour to surrender to the local precinct,” I said softly. “Because if you don't, I am releasing the audio to the district attorney. Enjoy your flight.”

I ended the call.
