Chapter 9 - The House of Cards Falls

"Marcus, listen to me," Arthur stammered, backing away from Leo and putting his hands up. "It's a misunderstanding! I was checking her IV! The doctors were negligent—"
"Save it," Marcus interrupted, stepping into the room. "I know everything, Arthur. I know about the faulty batteries. I know you framed Sarah. I know my company’s success was built on the blood of Leo's little sister."
Arthur’s polished facade crumbled. His face contorted into a snarl of desperate panic. "You can't prove anything! The board will back me! I made them all rich!"
"The board won't back a man sitting in a federal penitentiary for attempted murder," Marcus said coldly. He nodded to his security chief. "Thomas, detain him. Do not let him out of your sight until the police arrive. If he runs, break his legs."
Thomas grabbed Arthur roughly, pinning his arms behind his back. As Arthur was dragged out of the room, screaming threats and profanities, Marcus rushed over to Leo. He dropped to his knees and pulled the boy into a tight hug.
"Are you hurt?" Marcus asked frantically, checking the boy's arms.
"I'm okay," Leo sniffled, though tears were streaming down his face. "He had a needle. He was going to put it in her tube."

Marcus closed his eyes, overwhelmed by a tidal wave of emotion. This boy. This frail, impoverished boy had now saved his daughter’s life twice in one day.
"You are the bravest person I have ever met, Leo," Marcus said, his voice breaking. "Now, it's my turn to save someone for you. Let's go check on your mother."
