Chapter 3 - The Billionaire's Promise

The Vance family’s private medical suite at the city's top hospital looked more like a five-star hotel than a clinical facility. While a team of top cardiologists tended to Lily, Marcus sat in the waiting room with Leo. The boy looked terrified, his eyes darting around the luxurious room, clutching a half-eaten sandwich a nurse had given him.

"Leo, I meant what I said," Marcus stated, crossing his arms. "I am a very wealthy man. I can buy you a house. I can put you in the best school in the country. I can set up a trust fund that guarantees you will never wear taped shoes or go hungry again. Just say the word."

Leo stopped chewing. He looked at the sandwich, then up at the imposing billionaire. He didn't look excited. He looked desperate.

"I don't want a house," Leo said firmly. "I don't want a school."

Marcus was taken aback. "Then what do you want?"

"I want you to save my mom."

Marcus leaned forward. "Is your mother sick?"

Leo nodded, his eyes filling with tears again. "She coughs up blood. She can't get out of bed anymore. She says it's just a cold, but I know she's lying. She hasn't eaten in three days so I could have food. If she dies... I'll have no one. Please, mister. You have doctors. Save her."

Marcus felt a lump form in his throat. He had spent his life accumulating wealth, crushing competitors, and building an empire. Yet, here was a boy who had nothing, asking for nothing but his mother's life.

"Show me where you live, Leo," Marcus said, standing up. "We're going to get her right now."
