Chapter 8 - The Confession

"Elena, what the hell are you talking about?" David’s voice shook with a mixture of terror and disbelief. "Are you insane?!"

"I know about Malibu, David," I said, my voice dropping its facade, revealing the absolute venom underneath. "I know you were buried in her sheets while Leo was dying. And I know you drained his medical fund to pay for it."

"Elena, please, you don't understand—"

"I understand perfectly," I interrupted. "You murdered our son for a luxury suite and a twenty-something Pilates instructor. You let him die asking for his father. So I took everything from you."

"I'll kill you!" he screamed into the phone, his true nature finally surfacing. "I'll come back there and I'll kill you, you crazy bitch! You framed me for stealing from the mafia!"

"I'm recording this call, David," I stated calmly. "And I'm currently standing on the porch with two federal agents who came to serve a warrant for your arrest regarding the embezzlement. They’re listening to everything."

That was a lie, but David’s panicked mind couldn't tell the difference.

"Where are you, David?" I asked softly. "Are you at the marina? Trying to take the boat?"

A sharp intake of breath on his end confirmed my suspicion. He was at the docks.

"Good luck, David. You're going to need it." I hung up the phone.
