David came home that evening looking like a ghost. He was sweating through his suit, pacing the living room floor while gripping his phone.
"Is everything alright, honey?" I asked, pouring myself a glass of red wine.
"The bank... my accounts are frozen," he stammered, his eyes darting around the room. "There’s some kind of glitch. And I can't reach Chloe. She blocked my number. Her apartment is cleared out."
I took a slow sip of wine. "Chloe? Who is Chloe?"
David froze, realizing his slip. "A... a client. Just a crazy client."
His phone buzzed. He looked at the screen, and the color drained entirely from his face. "I have to go," he said, grabbing his keys. "I have to fix this."

"David, wait," I called out, my voice dripping with fake concern. "Don't leave. Not again."
He didn't even look back. He ran out the front door, desperate to find the mistress who had just abandoned him, completely unaware that his life was rapidly collapsing into a sinkhole of my design. I walked over to the window, watching his taillights disappear into the night, and dialed an anonymous tip to Volkov's private security firm. I gave them David's license plate and his exact location.
