Chapter 7 - The Ultimate Betrayal

Julian walked slowly down the concrete steps into the heavily soundproofed basement of the Connecticut estate.
Victoria was sitting on a cold metal chair, her hands bound tightly behind her back with industrial zip ties.
Her emerald gown was ruined, her makeup was smeared, and her arrogant defiance had completely evaporated.
She looked up at Julian, her eyes wide with a desperate, pleading terror.
"Julian, please, I am sorry," she sobbed, her voice echoing pathetically off the concrete walls.
"I just loved you so much, I couldn't stand sharing you with that broken child."
Julian didn't say a word, he simply turned his laptop around and placed it on the metal table in front of her.
The screen displayed the recovered text messages and the offshore bank transfers she had used to pay the mercenary driver.
Victoria stared at the screen, her breathing stopping completely as she realized her deepest, darkest secret had been unearthed.
"You murdered my wife, Victoria," Julian stated, his voice so quiet and deadly it made the air feel freezing cold.
"You orchestrated the crash that broke my son’s spine, and then you smiled in my face and tried to play the grieving savior."
"I can explain, Julian, please!" she shrieked, thrashing violently against the plastic restraints.
"There is nothing left to explain," Julian replied, calmly closing the laptop.
"Your father, the honorable federal judge, is currently under investigation by the FBI for massive corruption."
"I just sent all of his illegal offshore banking records, which I pulled from your device, to the New York Times."
Victoria stopped thrashing, her jaw dropping in absolute shock as her family's entire legacy was erased in an instant.
"And I have already forwarded this murder-for-hire evidence to the district attorney, along with a team of federal marshals."
"You are not just going to prison, Victoria, you are going to federal death row."

Julian turned his back on the screaming, sobbing woman and walked slowly up the stairs into the light.
He had finally avenged his beloved Elena, and his soul felt completely clean.
