The floor seemed to drop out from beneath my feet, sending me spiraling into a dark abyss of disbelief.
“You?” I breathed out, staring at my own flesh and blood sister as if she were a total stranger.

“You conspired with my own sister behind my back?” I roared, the anger completely consuming me.
“I did it for us, Mark!” Elena pleaded, reaching out a pale hand toward me.
“With five million dollars, we could have traveled the world, bought a mansion, and tried IVF again at a better clinic!”
“You are disgusting,” I spat out, stepping away from her bed as if she were a contagious disease.

The midwife, Sarah, held the baby closer to her chest, trying to shield the innocent newborn from the toxic energy in the room.
