Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

The emergency custody hearing was scheduled for the very next morning.
I walked into the courthouse with Sarah holding my right arm and Elena walking boldly ahead of us.
My family was already seated on the other side of the courtroom.
Chloe had a theatrical bandage wrapped around her wrist.
Marcus sat tall, wearing a custom tailored suit and a smug expression.
My father glared at me, silently promising to destroy my life.
When the judge entered, my father’s high-priced lawyer immediately started his speech.
He painted me as a deranged, bitter man who attacked his innocent sister in a fit of delusion.
He requested that Maya be placed in my father’s enormous estate for her own safety.
Elena stood up calmly when he finished his dramatic monologue.
“Your Honor, opposing counsel’s narrative is entirely fictitious,” Elena stated clearly.
“We have irrefutable audio evidence of the abuse, recorded by the minor child herself.”
The smug look on Marcus’s face instantly evaporated.
Chloe actually gasped out loud.
Elena played the watch recording over the courtroom’s speaker system.
The sound of Chloe’s vicious hiss and the sickening thud echoed off the wood-paneled walls.

The judge’s face turned bright red with absolute fury.
The silence in the courtroom was deafening.
