Chapter 10 - Peace at Last

Months turned into a year, and the toxic drama of the past felt like a distant nightmare.

It was a warm Sunday afternoon, and Arthur was hosting a small, private barbecue in his backyard.

There were no arrogant relatives, no expensive champagne towers, and no toxic expectations.

Just a few close friends, good food, and the sound of pure, unadulterated joy.

Chloe, Ethan, and Liam were running through the sprinklers, screaming with laughter as a golden retriever chased them across the grass.

Arthur flipped a burger on the grill, smiling as Ethan ran up to him, completely soaked.

“Dad, can we have ice cream after lunch?” Ethan asked, his eyes wide and hopeful.

“You can have ice cream before lunch if you want,” Arthur laughed, handing his son a fresh towel.

The anxiety that used to plague his children’s eyes was completely gone.

They were thriving, growing into confident, happy kids who knew their home was a safe sanctuary.

Arthur looked out over his yard, taking a deep breath of the fresh summer air.

He had lost his parents, but he had saved his family.
