Chapter 12 - The Battle of D Street

Dawn broke over the industrial waterfront of South Boston in shades of cold gray and industrial smog. The D Street warehouse district was a labyrinth of brick factories, shipping containers, and abandoned train tracks—the perfect killing ground for a tactical ambush.

At precisely 6:15 AM, three armored Rossi SUVs turned onto the narrow corridor between two towering brick warehouses. They moved slowly, their tires crunching over the frozen gravel, their headlights cutting through the morning fog.

High above on the warehouse roofs, Vincente stood with six sniper teams equipped with high-powered rifles. Beside him stood the rival Providential syndicate boss, a brutal man named O'Rourke who had funded the coup.

"There he is," Vincente sneered through his binoculars, watching the lead vehicle slow down. "Marco came through. The GPS is dark, no local police within two miles. Light them up!"

A hail of armor-piercing gunfire rained down from the rooftops, shattering the windows of the lead SUV and shredding its tires. The vehicle swerved and slammed into a concrete loading dock. The second and third SUVs immediately spun around, blocking the alleyway.

"Move! Move! Take the vehicles!" Vincente shouted to his ground assault teams waiting in the side alleys. Twenty heavily armed men swarmed out from behind the shipping containers, firing automatic weapons at the trapped Rossi convoy.

They approached the lead SUV, tearing open the shot-out doors to drag Julian Rossi's bleeding corpse onto the asphalt.

But the vehicle was empty.

The driver’s seat held only a cinderblock pressed against the gas pedal, and the rear seats were packed with high-grade tactical flash-bang explosives tied to remote detonators.

Up on the roof, Vincente’s eyes widened in horror. "It's a trap! Fall back!"

Before he could scream another order, the rear doors of the surrounding brick warehouses exploded inward. Fifty elite Rossi enforcers—led by Julian himself, wearing full tactical body armor over his tailored suit—poured into the alleyway from all four sides, catching Vincente's ground teams in a devastating, inescapable crossfire.

At the same time, Julian’s rooftop assault teams, who had scaled the back of the building using silent grappling gear during the night, breached the roof access doors.

"Drop your weapons!" Julian’s voice echoed across the waterfront through a tactical bullhorn, cold and absolute. "You are surrounded by Rossi loyalists! Anyone who drops their rifle walks away alive! Anyone who raises a weapon dies for Vincente's treason!"

The Providential mercenaries, realizing they had been utterly outmaneuvered and abandoned by their corrupt intel, immediately began throwing their rifles onto the frozen gravel, raising their hands in surrender.

Vincente, frantic and desperate, pulled a secondary sidearm and tried to sprint toward the fire escape stairwell.

A single, high-velocity shot rang out from the alley below.

The bullet shattered Vincente’s right kneecap. He screamed, dropping his pistol as he collapsed onto the icy gravel of the rooftop, clutching his shattered leg in agony.

Slowly, the heavy iron fire escape doors opened. Julian Rossi stepped onto the roof, his suppressed 9mm lowered at his side, his dark coat flapping in the freezing harbor wind. Behind him stood Silvio and four armed capos.

"Julian!" Vincente gasped, his face gray with shock and pain as he looked up at the young man he had tried to murder twice. "How... how did you know?"

Julian walked over, kicking Vincente's discarded sidearm over the edge of the roof into the freezing harbor waters below. He looked down at the traitor with cold, obsidian eyes that held zero mercy.

"You forgot the first rule my father taught us, Vincente," Julian said quietly, his voice carrying over the whistling wind. "A man who fights for money will always betray you when the price is right. But a man who fights to protect the people he loves... cannot be defeated."

He signaled to his capos. "Take him to the federal authorities. Use the evidence from Marco's confession to tie him to the Providence murders and the arson in Maine. Let him spend the rest of his miserable life in a ADX Florence supermax cell, wondering how a country nurse and three puppies brought down his entire empire."
